5 Things Every Small Business Instagram Profile Needs

Before you post your first product photo, make sure your profile is set up to convert visitors into followers — and followers into buyers.

5 Things Every Small Business Instagram Profile Needs

Most small business Instagram accounts lose potential customers before they ever see a product post. The profile is the problem.

Here is what yours needs before you post anything else.

1. A clear bio line that says what you sell

Not your job title. Not your values. What you sell and who it is for. One sentence. "Digital templates and presets for small business owners. Under $20 each."

2. A link that actually goes somewhere

Your bio link should go to your shop, not your homepage. If you have multiple products, use a link-in-bio tool to list them. Every click should land on something to buy.

3. A profile photo that is recognizable at 40 pixels

Your logo needs to be legible tiny. If it has small text, use a simplified version. If you are the brand, use a clean headshot on a plain background.

4. Saved Story highlights with real labels

At minimum: Products, Reviews, and About. Highlights let new visitors understand what you do in 30 seconds without scrolling your grid.

5. A grid that has at least 9 posts before you promote

No one follows an empty account. Post 9 times before you run any ad or share your link anywhere. The grid is the first impression — make it look like you have been here a while.

Get these five things right and your profile does the selling before a visitor reads a single caption.
